Christian’s talent as a designer brings a unique aesthetic to
The Backyard Farm Co, and his 20 + years experience of project management in landscape construction bring quality and professionalism to the team. His award-winning U.K. company was a leader in designing landscapes ranging from London townhouses to country estates.
After leaving the UK in 2008 he began working for both educational non-profit organisations and for-profit farms around the world with the area of focus on ecological land-design and food production. Some of the projects included: designing the layout for the world-renowned Permaculture Research Institute in Australia, creating strategies for sustainable farming in the Dead Sea Valley drylands of Jordan and the design of a 40acre 'full-season' production farm in Columbus, Ohio.
Christian's present focus and driving passion with TBYFC is the continued exploration and integration of high quality architecture, food production and ecological awareness in and around the home-environment; supporting home owners to look at their space in an exciting, creative and nutritious way.
Chief Farming Officer
Amy has been a farmer and farm educator for over 12 years and was recognized as a one of the top 40 farmers under 40 by the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund.
The former assistant Farm Manager at the Indian Valley Organic Farm & Garden, Marin County, Amy managed farm operations, marketing, sales and education programs of this 5.8-acre organic farm. Studying at the UCSC Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems in the Apprenticeship Program, Amy went on to become a teacher/field manager of the program. After leaving UCSC, Amy started a 2-acre educational farm in Petaluma for Petaluma Bounty. She was also the Farm Production Manager at Pie Ranch, where she led production, marketing and sales of fruits, vegetables, grains, laying hens, goats and cows and also led Pie Ranch’s Emerging Farmer Program, instructing apprentices and interns in all aspects of sustainable agriculture.
Amy brings her passion for farming and years of field experience designing farms and growing food to each and every project. Her love of teaching is a perfect compliment to our farm mentor program, where she continues to inspire and empower our clients how to grow food and scale-up their farm production with confidence.
Christiana grew up with organic pioneers as Full Belly Farm and Riverdog Farm as her playgrounds and an assortment of vegetable as dolls. Her passion for farming and food has since lead her from the islands of Scotland to the jungles of Nicaragua in the pursuit of gaining experience with diverse small-scale agriculture methods.
While obtaining her degree in Community Studies from UCSC, Christiana focused her research on agricultural policy and food justice, specifically relating to her work with the non-profit Homeless Garden Project as their Community Supported Agriculture Manager. As the former Assistant Farm Manager for Saison, a 3-Michelin-Star restaurant in San Fransisco, she cultivated 3 acres of specialty crops in Marin, harvested produce to meet rigorous standards, and milked the dairy cow daily. These days she serves as the Garden Educator for the SF Juvenile Detention Center, showing youth the value of growing food and the reward of fresh cooking.
Christiana’s dedication to quality and enthusiasm for all growing things is apparent in every aspect of her life, but especially when helping to turn farming goals into reality. With a deep belief in connecting people with their food, she supports our clients to grow beautiful backyard spaces and enjoy delicious produce.
