“This year we had the fortune of discovering The Backyard Farm Company and we are so happy with their services.

Amy helped us design a customized vegetable planting plan that’s tailored to our culinary and education needs. She has also taught several gardening classes to our employees that have helped empower them with the knowledge to garden at home. Best of all, the vegetables and fruits that we have harvested from the garden are getting used in our culinary classes like salsa making and smoothie making.

We’ve been able to develop an internship program, where interested Googlers can come out to the garden on a regular basis and help with maintenance and hone their own gardening skills. I’ve been so impressed by the professionalism and friendliness of the Backyard Farm Co team, and the creativity to grow a lot of food in a tiny space.”

CLASS CURRICULUMS

We have four interactive class curriculums developed and ready to implement, and we are more than happy to create custom curriculums that meet the needs of your group.

Mindful Gardening

An introduction to how gardening brings us into the present moment and grounds our bodies. We will explore the connection between the needs of plants and the needs of people and how to nurture both. This class will include practicing observation with all your senses, a guided meditation, and a journaling activity.

Gardening Basics

This class covers all the elements of starting your own successful garden, including how to build soil health and manage fertility, seed and transplant, plant crop successions and rotations, know when and how much to water, and harvesting specifics. Whether you’re gardening in a backyard, a few doorstep pots, or just want to expand your knowledge, we’ll cover it all.

Midseason Plant Care

Insider look at how farmers get big beautiful harvests every year. Learn all the midseason steps for summer and winter crops, including how and when to fertilize, how to prune tomatoes, how to tell when your vegetables are ready to harvest and the correct harvesting technique. We’ll cover organic pest and disease control, and answer all your questions.

Culinary Herb Gardening

Learn how to plant and care for your own herb garden, perfect for a windowsill or patio. The kit will include everything you need to start growing fragrant culinary herbs in no time, and through this class you will learn the basics of container gardening for small spaces. We will cover sunlight and watering requirements, pruning, harvesting, and culinary uses.

“Amy and the whole Backyard Farm Team have been a joy to learn from.

She has answered countless questions about optimizing my space, attracting pollinators, and keeping the soil in my raised beds nutrient rich. I used to work on a farm and was intimidated by the seemingly high risk in small scale gardening, but Amy has made the experience approachable by empowering me with knowledge and a playful outlook."
